Santhia Basics
WHAT IS SANTHIA?
Santhia is the term that refers to the learning of the script of Gurmukhi in relation to Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the Sikh divine scripture. It differs from a Punjabi class in that a Santhia class solely concentrates on the teachings of the Guru as opposed to learning for communication purposes or general knowledge, hence the term ‘Gurmukhi’ – facing towards the Guru. For students who are interested in learning the Punjabi language, there are going to be separate courses available for this on p6academy.co.uk soon.
This course will enable students to learn the correct pronunciation and recital of the divine wisdom of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. After this course, students will be able to access further courses on the deeper meaning and application of these teachings to daily life.
Starting with the 35 letters, the Santhia classes have been tailored for students who have no knowledge at all although those that have previous experience still have a lot to gain. After learning the letters, sounds & building of words and sentences in Module 1, students will move on to Sri Jap Ji Sahib and the daily Sikh prayers in Module 2 working up to being able to read Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji from Ang 1-1430 in further Modules. As Sikh, we have a unique situation – the Gurbani contained within the divine scripture was scribed and recited by the Guru themselves. This means that if we want the authentic teachings of the Guru that sat on the burning hot plate and didn’t even flinch, the source is there. If you truly want to understand what the Guru left behind for the world, this course is perfect for you.
