About P6

The Academy's Inspiration

‘Patishahi Chevi’ translates to ‘The Sixth King’ which is a homage to the 6th Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji. Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji transformed the Sikh way of life in the 17th century. The first 5 Sikh Gurus, spanning from the years 1469-1606, practised and taught self-restraint, tolerance and acceptance in the face of discrimination. It was only when the 5th Guru, Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji, was martyred for choosing to make a stand for human rights that their son did something unprecedented.

An 11-year-old Hargobind, the son of the 5th Guru, stood before the Sikh community and declared war on tyranny, terrorism & injustice. They promised their followers that the days of being terrorised were no more so long as they pledged their allegiance to the Nishaan Sahib (Sovereign Insignia) of the Guru. They gave the command to take up arms & defend the rights of the biggest community of all – the human race. The 6th Guru fought four wars, decimating the morale and numbers of the opposing armies each time.

The son of Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji, who was to become the 9th Guru, was famously beheaded for protecting the rights of the Hindu community. The grandson of Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji, who was to become the 10th Guru, waged 14 wars against injustice and chose to sacrifice all members of their family rather than accept oppression.

It is with these ideals of nobility, sacrifice & courage that Sikhs have received the ultimate purpose to defend the rights of all. And once again, it is with these ideals that P6 Academy began, inspired by the great history of the Sikhs but in particular, the direction, sacrifice and sovereignty of Patishahi Chevi (P6) – Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji.

The foundations of P6 Academy are rooted in Ludhiana, Punjab, where Damdama Sahib P.6 in Pind Rakba stands. This historic Gurdwara is where the 6th Guru and their Sikh army tied their horses & rested on their expedition. They rested, cleansed and famously accepted the offerings of milk from the local mothers of the village who personified faith and determination.

In the 21st century, Damdama Sahib is the headquarters of Shiromani Panth Akali Buddha Dal, the same Sikh army led by Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji. It was from the Patishahi Chevi Vidhyala (P6 Academy) set up at this Gurdwara that P6 Academy in the UK came forth. Under the direction & leadership of Singh Sahib Jathedar Baba Joginder Singh Ji 96Krori, P6 Academy has been flourishing for the past 5 years.

the Academy's Progress

In the UK, Patishahi 6 Academy initially started as a Gatka Akhara (Sikh martial arts club) in 2015. This club was run once a week but expanded rapidly from 1 student to 60 active and engaged members. The priority of running this class was to maintain a secure hub of children to enable them to feel a sense of belonging and togetherness.

Over the years running this class, it became apparent that the youth required a greater deal of time, effort & attention. It was from this realisation that P6 Academy was born – a safe and friendly environment where children of the Sikh community could come together and learn while building community strength & spirit.

With the grace of Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji, there is now a total of 5 classes that take place at Guru Nanak Gurdwara, Sedgley St, Wolverhampton. From Kirtan to Santhia, P6 Academy aims to offer a widespread & thorough understanding of the Sikh faith to empower future generations with knowledge.

The safety of each child entering into the academy is paramount, which is why all teachers & supervisors of the academy are DBS checked and relevantly trained.
